I have a long history of working with adults with substance use and co-existing disorders. I have worked in community mental health and AOD settings as well as forensic mental health and in correctional facilities. My roles have included assessment and intervention of people with substance use and co-existing problems. This includes clients wanting to go on the opioid treatment program, clients referred through the police and court diversion scheme, probation and parole clients, and clients that are self referred or referred by another healthcare provider.
I take a cognitive behavioural approach to working with his clients’ problems. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) works by identifying faulty thinking styles and the behaviours that are causing you problems that link to the emotion or diagnosis for which you are seeking support for. CBT is a short term problem solving intervention and has been found to be very effective for the treatment of most psychological problems.
